A chemical industry blueprint for the UK

LONDON— The world’s top chemical industry group is backing plans to create a new chemical industry to compete with the booming synthetic chemicals market, according to a report released Monday.

The World Economic Forum’s Chemical Industry Blueprint, a blueprint for creating the industry, said it wants to build on what has been successful for other chemical industries such as pharmaceuticals and food processing, but said it could not compete with what is happening in the global synthetic chemical market.

The Blueprint says it will include measures such as creating more skilled positions, making chemical engineering more affordable, and boosting training.

It also calls for stronger financial support for the industry and the creation of a public investment fund.

The Chemical Industry Council says the Blueprint is one of the most comprehensive plans ever released by the group.

The group also said it will be published as a report to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
