DOW Chemical Industries Inc. has hired 200 workers to help manage operations in the South China Sea, the company said Wednesday.
The new employees will work at the company’s headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Dow Chemical is a major U.S. manufacturer of a wide variety of chemicals, including chemicals used in the production of fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals used for industrial and agricultural purposes.
In addition to the 200 employees, the Fort Lauderdale office is hiring about 50 additional employees in the company area and in other facilities.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Phil Scott said in a statement the new hires will help manage logistics for the company in the future.
Fort Myers Mayor Rick Kriseman said the hires will “enhance the safety and security of our city, our residents and visitors.”
The company said the hiring will help it to provide “a seamless, secure and effective communications environment.”
The hiring is part of a broader hiring effort in the city, which is expected to employ 1,000 workers this year.
